Behind the cause

From 2010-2013, Antarctica shed 480 billion metric tons of ice. Vital to keeping the planet cool as it reflects the sun’s heat, glacial ice is melting at an alarming rate, speeding up the warming of our planet. With this, comes the threat of submerged coasts, increased storms, droughts and floods, causing the displacement of entire populations. This accelerated "melt" is an alarming sign of global warming - a reality that will continue to dramatically affect our planet's weather patterns, food resources, ecosystems, and geography. Now is the time to take responsibility and change our destructive habits in an effort to reduce the effects of global warming.

HOW YOU CAN HELP MELTING GLACIERS:

  • Buy an energy efficient vehicle, walk or bike more, use mass transit
  • Use reusable containers – ideally glass
  • Always use reusable bags when shopping
  • Don’t use plastic straws, single use plastics or Styrofoam
  • Opt for wind or solar power to heat and cool your home
